Every Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4 Project Announced At SDCC

Yesterday evening was a big day for fans of the Marcel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige and some familiar and new faces took the stage in Hall H to announce the upcoming features for Phase 4. The new phase looks a little different than many fans are used too, with lesser known heroes joining center stage, and Disney+ TV shows expected to tie directly into the MCU feature films.

Phase 4 will launch in May of 2020 with the long awaited Black Widow solo film. Black Widow will take place after Captain America: Civil War and introduce Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova and Taskmaster as the primary villain. The film reportedly will also feature scenes in Budapest, which long time fans will recognize as a big point in Hawkeye and Black Widow’s history.

Next will be the first Disney+ Marvel show to air titled The Falcon And The Winter Soldier in Fall 2020. This will focus on Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson and Sebastion Stan as Bucky Barnes as they struggle with the world post-Captain America. Emily Van Camp and Daniel Bruhl will reprise their roles as Sharon Carter and Baron Zemo respectively. Bruhl will done the infamous Zemo mask for the first time.

Coming in November 2020 will be Marvel’s Eternals. Eternals is a lesser known property by Marvel which focus’ on a race of superhumans that are described as an offshoot of the evolutionary process. The film will include the MCU debuts of Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, and Salma Hayek as Thena, Ikaris, Kingo, and Ajak respectively.

Launching 2021 off is Marvel’s first Chinese superhero in Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings. Shang-Chi is another lesser known property of Marvel’s. Shang-Chi is Marvel’s very own “Master of Kung-Fu” and is an un-powered hero. Simu Liu will be in the lead role. Tony Leung Chiu-wai will be portraying the Mandarin who was previously faked by actor Trevor Slattery (portrayed by Ben Kingsley) in Shane Black’s Iron Man 3. Awkwafina has also been cast in an unannounced role.

Shifting back to television will be WandaVision. WandaVision will see Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprise their roles as Scarlet Witch and Vision for what is being described as a “mega event series”. The show is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame making it unclear as to how Vision is featured due to his demise at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. WandaVision will also see Monica Rambeau, who debuted as a child in Captain Marvel, as an adult by Teyonah Parris. Rambeau assumes the identity of the superhero Spectrum and also Captain Marvel in the comics. The series will tie heavily into the MCU films leading directly into the next theatrical release featuring everyone’s favorite sorcerer.

Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness follows immediately after WandaVision in May 2021. Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness sees Benedict Cumberpatch reprising the titular role and Elizabether Olsen co-starring as Scarlet Witch. The film will also feature the villain Nightmare. Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness is being billed as the MCUs first horror film.

Moving to Spring 2021 we see yet another Disney+ MCU show. These time we are focusing on our favorite trickster, Loki in the aptly named Loki. Loki will see Tom Hiddleston reprise his role as the titular character. Loki will focus on the 2014 version of the character that was seen stealing the tesseract in Avengers: Endgame this summer. There are not many details available for the show at this time.

Next on the list will be the animated series What If…? in Summer 2021. This show is based off of the popular comic series of the same name that revisits history in the Marvel Universe if there were some differences. The first episode reportedly will focus on if Peggy Carter took the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers. What If…? is expected to have over 25 MCU alums returning to lend their voices to the series including, Michael B. Jordan, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Hemsworth, Haley Atwell, Jeremy Renner, and Paul Rudd among others. The series will be narrated by the infamous Watcher, who is part of a race briefly seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. The Watcher will be voiced by Jeffery Wright.

Hawkeye will follow What If…? in Fall of 2021 with Jeremy Renner reprising his role as the titular archer. The series will introduce Kate Bishop who takes up the mantle of Hawkeye in Clint Barton’s place. There is not a lot of the details about the series currently, but based on the style of the title card, it seems that the series will take inspiration from Matt Fraction’s Hawkeye which focus’ heavily on the relationship between Bishop and Barton.

Rounding out Phase 4 will be the God of Thunder himself (or herself?) in Thor: Love And Thunder. Thor: Love And Thunder will see Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman all reprise their roles as Thor, Valkyrie, and Jane Foster respectively. Takia Waititi has come back to the series to not only direct, but also write the fourth installment. The film will see Jane Foster pick up the mantle of Thor pulling inspiration from Jason Aaron’s 2014 series Thor. Tessa Thompson also announced that her character Valkyrie is also LGBTQ+.

Kevin Feige confirmed that this slate will be all the content that will be in Phase 4. What project are you most excited for? Let us know in the comments below!
