Barbara Gordon is set to make her Titans debut in Season 3 in a recurring role.
It is expected that this take on the character will focus on her life post-paralyzing at the hands of Batman’s nemesis The Joker. For those not familiar with the story, in Batman: The Killing Joke, Barbara (whom is Batgirl at the time) gets attacked by The Joker in her home. She survives the attack, but it leaves her paralyzed from the waist down thus leaving her incapable of continuing as Batgirl. But this doesn’t stop Barbara from fighting crime as she decides to pick up the mantle of Oracle.
As Oracle, Barbara reestablishes herself as an invaluable member of the Bat-Family as a technical advisory, computer expert, and information broker. She works behind the scenes helping out on missions from a remote location, effectively operating as “The Guy in The Chair”.
One aspect of Barbara’s character being reported that differs from that of the original Oracle roles is that she is expected to be the Commissioner of the GCPD following the passing of her Father, Commissioner James Gordon.
Casting has already begun and Titans is expected to cast an actress in a wheelchair. This follows the trend that they also set forth while casting Chella Man in the role of Jerhico Wilson.
Titans is expected to begin filing their third season on March 30th in Toronto. All previous cast members are expected to return for the upcoming season.
